August is recognized as National Breastfeeding Month.  While Louisiana WIC promotes and supports breastfeeding as the best source of nutrition for a baby’s first year of life all year long, during the month of August, we like to draw attention to the importance of breastfeeding and recognize its benefits. Throughout this month, Louisiana WIC will be posting resources, games, and information, helping pregnant and breastfeeding moms who are growing right alongside their little ones.

We will dedicate each week in August to the Four Stages of Breastfeeding:

Week One: Learn

Every mom and baby is different, and your breastfeeding journey will be unique. While you’ll be learning throughout your journey, the more you learn before your baby’s birth, the better prepared you’ll be. Learn about the Benefits of Breastfeeding and the Basics of Breastfeeding to help you get ready to begin your own journey.

Having support along the way can help make breastfeeding easier. Before your baby arrives, Set Breastfeeding Goals.

Talk to Your Family about how they can support you, and reach out to WIC—they can all help you on your journey.
