Support Your Child’s Growth with Proper Nutrition

Deciding how to feed your infant is a choice that should be made by a mom and her family.

Human breast milk is the gold standard of infant nutrition! However, you may choose infant formula instead of breast milk or a combination of breast milk and infant formula.  WIC supports your decision on how you will feed your baby!

Louisiana WIC offers several infant standard formulas available to caregivers without a prescription from their doctor. All WIC formulas are nutritionally complete and contain iron.

Similac Advance

Similac Sensitive

Similac Soy Isomil

Similac Total Comfort

Both the powder and concentrate forms are available.

Exempt or Special Formulas

Sometimes your baby or child may need a special formula. WIC is here for you, and offers special formulas for many different situations, for example if your baby was born premature or has allergies. Discuss with your doctor if a special formula would be better for your baby. These formulas require a prescription (WIC-48) from the doctor.

Some children may also need  special formulas or nutritionals. These are also available from WIC and require a medical condition and a prescription (WIC-48) from the doctor.
