Completing the Self-Checkout Process with WIC EBT cards

Scan All Items for Purchase

Add Items to the cart or bag by scanning the UPC and/or pressing “Look Up Items”. You may purchase WIC and non-WIC items in the same transaction.

Pay For Items

Once all items have been scanned, press the Pay button.

Next step based on the following stores

Walmart
  • Pay with your WIC EBT Card FIRST by doing one of the following:
    • Insert your WIC EBT card directly into the PIN pad OR
    • Select “Other payment methods” then select the “eWIC” and insert your WIC EBT card directly into the PIN pad.
Winn-Dixie
  • Scan Coupons, if applicable, the Select “Electronic Tender” to pay with WIC: Insert your WIC EBT card directly into the PIN pad
Albertsons
  • Pay With Your WIC EBT Card FIRST by Inserting your WIC EBT card directly into the PIN pad
Kroger
  • Scan Coupons, if applicable, the Select “Card” to pay with WIC. Enter your shopper’s card or ID (if applicable) or select “No Thanks”

Enter Your PIN

Use the PIN pad to enter your PIN and review the WIC benefits being redeemed during the transaction. You may have to look at the paper receipt to check your WIC purchase.

  • If the purchase is correct, press “Yes” on the PIN pad. 
  • If something looks wrong, press “No” and adjust your order.

Payment for non-WIC Items

Use another form of payment for non-WIC items (if applicable) and complete the transaction.

Self-Checkout Tips

  • Use shelf-checkout for small purchases (1 or 2 bags). 
  • You DO NOT have to accept the charged if you do not agree or have questions about the transaction.
  • Self-Checkout is only available at Albertsons, Walmart, and Winn Dixie stores that accept LA WIC and have self-checkout lanes. 
  • If you need a WIC balance receipt use a register with a cashier or go to customer service. 
  • Download the myWIC app to help with WIC shopping.
    • App Tip: Use the scanning feature to scan each food item to ensure you can purchase it. 
  • If you need to remove an item during “self-checkout” get help from a store associate. 
  • If you need help with self-checkout, ask the grocery store associate located at the self-checkout registers to assist you.
