Fresh, Local Produce with LA WIC’s Farmers Market Program

The Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) offers Louisiana WIC eligible individuals extra spendable benefits to buy locally grown fruits, vegetables, and cut herbs from authorized farmers markets and roadside stands across the state.

FAQs

  • Who is eligible for WIC FMNP?

    Women, infants over 4 months old, and children certified to receive WIC Program benefits are eligible for WIC FMNP.

  • Where can I get WIC FMNP benefits if I am a WIC participant?

    You can get WIC FMNP benefits from participating WIC clinics here.

  • What do WIC FMNP participants get?

    Participants of WIC FMNP get:

    • An FMNP Shopper Card where benefits are added (separate from your WIC EBT card)
    • FMNP benefits: $50.00 for each WIC participant
    • A directory of participating Louisiana farmers markets and roadside stands through a QR code
    • Annual Harvest Calendar
  • When is the WIC FMNP season?

    FMNP cards are issued from participating clinics until September 30th. Benefits must be used by November 30th.

  • What can participants buy with WIC FMNP benefits?

    Participants can buy fresh locally grown fruits, vegetables, and cut herbs with their WIC FMNP benefits from farmers who display the yellow “FARMERS MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM CARDS WELCOME” sign.  You can use all of your benefits at once, or on separate visits.

    FMNP benefits may not be used to purchase:

    • Honey, jelly and jams, eggs, baked goods, meat or seafood, cheese, syrup, nuts and seeds of any kind, cider, plants, flowers or decorative pumpkins or gourds, other non-food items.
  • Can I use my FMNP card at the grocery store to buy fruits and vegetables?
    • No, you cannot use your FMNP benefits card to purchase fruits and vegetables from grocery stores or farmers who have not signed up to accept the FMNP cards. 
    • Your WIC EBT card cannot be used at farmers markets or roadside stands that have not signed up to accept the FMNP cards.
