LA WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program
Get Personalized Breastfeeding Support from LA WIC
Here at Louisiana WIC, we know that breastfeeding your baby can come with questions and sometimes worries and struggles. Our Breastfeeding Peer Counselors are moms helping moms with breastfeeding. We are here to support you and help you reach your breastfeeding goals.
What exactly is a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor?
A Peer Counselor is a mother that has breastfed herself, and has received extensive, research-based training to help other parents. She is able to answer questions throughout your breastfeeding journey and offer tips. She is able to guide you with using a breast pump and making a plan to keep breastfeeding if you are returning to work. She is also able to refer you to credentialed breastfeeding experts if your situation is more complicated. And she is here to celebrate your successes with you!
Talk with your WIC Clinic about how to get signed up for a Peer Counselor or call the Partners for Healthy Baby Support Line at 1.800.251.BABY (2229).
